The whole point of psychedelics is to split open your mind like a ripe melon and present a new way of seeing things, the word itself springing from the Greek combo of "mind" and "manifest." What's emerged from the consciousness of Woodstock's Stanton Warren in the past several years-- his project Venture Lift-- is a melding of late-'60s Pink Floyd to the droning shoegaze of Spacemen 3, with all the cerebral meanderings to boot: "Hippocrates said first to do no harm/ to the philosophers I say as well as the poets and the bards/ rise up from your victim manicure/ from your cathode rays to lease again the natural state." Warren is responsible for a trove of instruments here, and his tranquil vox hovers and slowpokes in the background like pensive specter. He generously brings in a bevy of Hudson Valley, NY luminaries to widen his trippy scope; his acid-trip cover the Syd Barrett/James Joyce gem "Golden Hair" is stellar.

The Venture Lift Project began with a debut CD "Future-to-real" on Mind Expansion Records (2007).
Another space rock oddity followed in 2011: "Tower of Spacious Karma" also on Mind Expansion features the run away hit "Bukowski on the Brain", with artwork by James Marsh. Subsequent albums are: 2014's "...a room in a grand hotel.", 2017's "Street of Mirrors" and 2020's "Arcadian Nights". ... more
